Our Story

How it started — The first crack. 

Over fifteen years ago, our family left New South Wales for the wild, beautiful shores of Tasmania. We quickly fell in love with the island’s seasonal fruit, walnuts, honey, and pristine landscapes — and it’s here that the idea for Walnutter, and later TassieTom, was born. 

Nut butters had always been a family favourite and never stayed on the pantry shelf for long. We enjoyed and tested every combination — added salt, honey, even chilli. After moving to Tasmania, home to Australia’s golden nut — the walnut — we were inspired to create our own. 

It took some time to nail the process, but our first creation, Walnutter Natural, is made with premium Tasmanian walnuts and a sprinkle of sea salt. That’s it. No additives, no shortcuts — just a rich, plant-based spread packed with omega-3s and antioxidants. 

Soon after, we introduced Walnutter Toffee — a bold, indulgent twist on our original blend. With its buttery crunch and sweet-salty balance, it’s become a go-to treat for customers who like their nut butter with a little extra decadence. 

With TassieTom, we expanded beyond walnuts to explore even more Tasmanian goodness — from our Smooth Peanut Butter made with Australian peanuts, to our Wood-Smoked Almond Butter, a savoury, smoky twist that’s become a customer favourite. 

Next came Apple Isle Deluxe Muesli — a nourishing blend of oats, Tasmanian walnuts, almonds, and freeze-dried fruits — capturing the flavour of Tasmania in every bowl.
Everything we make is a celebration of craftsmanship, curiosity, and the island we call home. 

Today, Walnutter and TassieTom proudly sit under the Hobart Food Co. banner — a brand grounded in family, flavour, and a deep love for Tasmania.
