About Us
Family-owned. Small-batch. Proudly Tasmanian.
We’re the Briscoes — a close-knit family based on Hobart’s Eastern Shore, creating small-batch nut butters and wholefood blends inspired by Tasmania’s world-class produce.
At the heart of Hobart Food Co. is Tom Briscoe — maker, owner, and the driving force behind the brand — working alongside his sister Carly, with support from their parents, Sue and Tony. It’s a true family business, with Tom’s partner Hannah (who wears many hats) and their two young boys, Alfie and Sonny, proudly stepping in as our unofficial — but very enthusiastic — quality control team.
Our roots stretch back even further — to the foothills of Sicily’s east coast near Taormina. Tom’s grandfather, Sebastiano Brischetto, was brought to Australia as a child to begin a new life among other immigrant Italian families on Queensland’s sugar cane farms. In the 1950s, he changed his name to 'Sid Briscoe', settled in Sydney, and raised his own family.

Growing up it was long days on the sugar cane farm in Queensland — part of our family's journey as Italian immigrants.
We see beautiful parallels between Sicily and Tasmania — two similarly shaped islands, both defined by honest food, rugged beauty, and strong communities. Whether it’s east coast walnuts and sea salt, local honey or freeze-dried fruit, we honour where our ingredients come from, crafting everything by hand and with care.
Meet Carly and her mum Sue – two friendly faces you’ll find at Salamanca Market every Saturday!
We started with a simple idea: take Tasmania’s best ingredients and make something unique and delicious. Want to know how it all started? [Read Our Story]
