Our Story
More than fifteen years ago, our family left New South Wales for the wild, beautiful shores of Tasmania. We quickly fell in love with the island’s seasonal fruit, golden walnuts, local honey and pristine landscapes — and it was here that the idea for Walnutter, and later TassieTom, was born.
Nut butters had always been a family favourite in our household — they never stayed on the pantry shelf for long. We experimented constantly, testing every combination imaginable: salt, honey, even chilli. After moving to Tasmania — home to Australia’s finest walnuts — we were inspired to create something of our own.
It took time to perfect the process, but our first creation, Walnutter Natural, was worth the wait. Made with premium Tasmanian walnuts and a simple sprinkle of sea salt, it contains no additives and no shortcuts — just a rich, plant-based spread naturally packed with omega-3s and antioxidants.
Not long after, we introduced Walnutter Toffee — a bold, indulgent twist on the original. With its buttery crunch and sweet-salty balance, it quickly became a favourite for those who like their nut butter with a little extra decadence.
With TassieTom, we expanded beyond walnuts to explore even more Tasmanian goodness — from our Smooth Peanut Butter made with Australian peanuts, to our Wood-Smoked Almond Butter, a savoury, smoky blend that’s now a customer favourite.
Next came Apple Isle Deluxe Muesli — a nourishing mix of oats, Tasmanian walnuts, almonds and freeze-dried fruits, capturing the flavour of Tasmania in every bowl.
Everything we make is a celebration of craftsmanship, curiosity and the island we’re proud to call home.
Today, Walnutter and TassieTom sit proudly under the Hobart Food Co banner — a brand grounded in family, flavour and a deep love for Tasmania.
